I remember seeing a stereo movie camera in R.M. Hayes book on 3D movies that
had a pair of lenses mounted on prisms so you could vary the stereo base.  I
always thought that would be a great system for a stereo camera.  You could
change from macro work with a small base to moderate hyper stereo easily.
