Applause for Jeff's homemade beamsplitter!
I'm still very pleased with the beamsplitter concept. I remain
horribly crunched for time and money, and the fabulous ease of mounting
is so great! I'm getting more and more of a feel for what
apertures work to minimize or eliminate the dark band between
the two images. I'd rather face that than manual exposure, which
I lived with through 2,000 to 3,000 frames.
I'll also freely admit that I enjoy doing things differently
and have relished the challenge of overcoming the beamsplitter's
inherent limitations. I'm quite tickled to own four of them:
Stereo-tach, Pentax, Stitz, and Franka.
Yesterday I again savored the beauty of my best picture of
a lifetime, taken with the Pentax on a 50mm f/1.8 Zuiko lens,
Olympus OM-10 camera, Kodachrome 64, 81A filter. No band
between images. Sharp to the corners.
I'll say that I heavily favor using a viewer and have no ideas
what evils might be lurking for projected beamsplitter images.
I also have no interest in trying to persuade everyone to use
a beamsplitter, or to say that they are technically perfect.
I do think this is a fascinating dimension of the stereo
experience and that a lot more people (but not everyone
by a long shot) might enjoy doing it.
This will also not prevent me from doing slide bar (I have one
and use it) and cha-cha shots or from using my Nimslo or my
hopefully-arriving-tomorrow FED Stereo.
Beamsplitters forever!
