P3D project or view problem

I purchased a POV off eBay about a year ago which was a good price and
all there, but was in a few pieces. Not quite. Polarizes were there, but
I found out they should be mounted in a metal frame which is missing.
The lenses and fan were rattling around the inside. After spending many
frustrating hours cleaning, installing and adjusting as best I could, I
popped in a slide and turned it on. Of course the alignment was way off
and so was the focus. The instruction manual says that the lenses are
carefully adjusted at the factory and if there is a problem to return
the projector to a qualified TDC service center. The big problem with
focusing the lenses is that the fan is in the way. Ouch! The lenses need
to be focused with those hot bulbs on but with the fan removed. My unit
is sitting and waiting for me to get psyched up for many fun hours with
my POV. My plan is to hook the hose on my ShopVac to the outlet so that
it blows, and then aim the hose at the hot bulbs while I adjust the
lenses with the fan removed. But then I also need to figure out how to
keep the interocular adjustment from springing back to the center. The
POV was not designed to be serviced easily. Plan on many scraped
knuckles. Don't ask me why I didn't try to return the POV to
"chainsawchuck". Good price and it came with a case?
