P3D A Prize and a Challenge

Hi all

Due to the comments I've read after recent NSA Conventions about a lack of
contemporary stereo images in the Spotlight Auction, I thought I'd submit
something of my own and even try to stimulate a bit more interest in others.

Since I'm prohibited from entering the Bill Davis Look-alike Contest (I
don't look *anything* like him, the judges said), I decided to make my own
contest for NSA 2000.

This is to announce the creation of the Bill Walton/Bill Davis Wild Mustang
Memorial Prize (BWBDWMMP) to be awarded to the stereographer who can get
the highest price for a contemporary stereo view (of their own creation) in
the Spotlight Auction at Mesa 2000. Currently Bill Walton himself holds
the title by default since no one else ever enters any views.

I'll round up all the details for entering items in the Auction and post
them here for all to see, even posting reminders along the way. There's
still over eight months to go, so there's plenty of time to pick out some
contenders.

I will also be handcrafting the BWBDWMMP trophy. In deference to Bill's
and my shared experiences, the trophy will be a 1/30 scale Ford Mustang,
launched off a curve at speed to crunch it up a bit then balanced on its
roof atop a golden pedestal.

Since this in itself barely qualifies as a trophy worthy of as prestigious
a competition as the BWBDWMMP, I am making special arrangements with my
friend Dick Twichell to bring back some sine qua non of leading edge art on
his next visit to Thailand. Of course I'm speaking of elephant excrement,
with which to tastefully accent the Mustang. (You're nowhere these days
without pachyderm poo.)

It was suggested that I use bull excrement instead, since I scrape
prodigious quantities from P3D Digests lately anyway, but that along with
common zoo elephant dung is considered "declasse and entirely unsuitable
for serious artistic expression", to quote the very knowledgable Dick T.

The Challenge: Irrespective of source of medium it is unlikely that anyone
besides myself will ever see this trophy, nor hold it, because I fully
intend to win the competition and keep it for myself. (Should I lose the
competition, I will still try to keep it by offering the winner a limited
edition "Take Pictures. Deeper." t-shirt in lieu of the trophy)

I have a view in mind that might bring more than one of Bill Walton's
ex-presidents and actors.

Any takers?

Best regards,
Bill Davis
