I recently acquired an Acer 620UT from Damark for $139.95 (after rebate)
plus shipping from Damark. It is a 600x1200 dpi flatbed scanner with a
flourescent panel in the lid that allows you to scan transparencies up
to 5"x7".
I have not tried any slides yet, but have gotten good results from B&W
roll film negatives and 35mm motion picture frames. This latter use is
the reason I bought the scanner. All film scanners I have heard of do
not allow you to scan motion picture frames without cutting the film.
Flatbeds do.
