P3D 3D Movies

>>But that begs the question: why shoot it in 3-d in the first place? It's
a
>>perfectly good film shown flat! And given the potential distractions of
>>stereo misalignments, ghosting, etc., chances are that on any given
>>occasion, it is a better film shown flat.

I also wonder about that as well. I think 3D is not the best way to show
most movies. 3D is still considered a novelty by the movie going public,
and it does not really seem to matter what the subject is. People see it
for the 3D - not the story.

There are many films that would be ruined by 3D. Not one of the classics I
like would be enhanced if photographed in 3d - they would be ruined. I hate
to say it, but 3D is the absolute last factor in what makes a movie truly
great, and I am glad my favorite directors made their greatest films flat.
3D would have totally ruined their films.

What kills 3D movies is crappy projection by inexperienced projectionists.
Or other factors and issues created by a theater that is ill equipped to
show them properly. 3D is like sound effects and music. The story and the
cinematography must be paramount, the 3D is secondary. Sound effects, Foley
effects and the score is never noticed during the film because they all
blend together. You only miss them when they are absent, and you remember
the music only after the film is over.

3D is NOT like that. It abuses the audience to a point where many never
view a 3D film ever again. The 3D should 'Disappear' and not be the least
bit obvious. This never happens as many of you know.

Then there is "Commin' At Ya....' A exaggerated 3D film that does not
mislead the viewer. It is one thing after another, and more importantly,
honest. No pretense that it is a great film, just 3D all over the place.
