P3D TDC Vivid-using flash

Have come into possession of a TDC Vivid.  It is  beautiful and appears well 
thought out.  Could anyone who owns one tell me how do you use it with an 
electonic flash?  Seems to have been designed for a dedicated flash 
attachment only.  Also: the focusing dial has markings down to 2-3/4 feet, 
but only 4 feet can be set to the red dot. Is this normal or is mine 
defective?  Richard,NY
