P3D why 3d?

Many thanks to the authors that responded to my (partly rhetorical)
questions and suggestions on the lack of popular interest in 3d.

I am honored and encouraged by Tony Alderson's comments, and he may rest
assured that I will not give up on stereo, just because it is costing me
money. That may just slow me down a bit.

As Al Razutis points out in his post, stereo needs artistic interpreters
and researchers to critically develop an aesthetic in stereoscopic media.
That is my current interest in anaglyphs. I am trying to develop an
aesthetic that uniquely exploits the anaglyph medium to give a pleasant (or
challenging) visual experience in both "flat" and "spatial" viewing modes.

It is a little like trying to make color TV work on the older B+W sets, or
stereophonic sound work on mono players - to extend the instructive
parallels introduced by Harp and Norman.

You may fault me for my optimism, but I think digital technology - like
autostereoscopic displays - will usher in a new 3-d revival that will
permanently change the face of television and the movies.

Gotta go,

Boris
