To respond to Bruce's "Angry Man" story, here's the simplest of all answers:

"No need to ponder about to potential aspects of the possible picture you
want to take, cause the "angry man" killed you when you reached for the
SLR"!

Where's my prize?

Being an optician for some years in the past, I know your distance over 20ft
requires no convergence and no constriction of the optic nerves. However,
any time you are viewing anything from less than 20feet, the eyes constrict
to reshape the optics to accomodate visually for a clear picture and in
addition, the eyes need to converge the closer you get. I can say the
average interoccular distance for a man is 63-66mm, but when measuring for
reading glasses (which is generally 15-18 inches away from the face), the
average for the same group of subjects is 59-63mm. Some converge more and
some less, but all must converge. I doubt you can get a picture that can
take all this in consideration of what a human must cope with for each
distance segment.
