I recently came into possession a of a Fed Boy and, like Mark, I'm very
happy with it.
I haven't really tried to do anything fancy with it yet, but It received
its first test during a club boat ride to the "Tall Stacks"
celebration up river in Cincinnati. Tall Stacks if a quadriennial
gathering of paddle wheel and fake paddle wheel boats at the Cincinnati
public landing. Photographing moving boats from a moving boat, especially
after a scientific taste-testing of the various flavors of Absolut Vodka,
is challenging and a tough assignment for any camera or any intrepid 3-D
photographer. The Fed was up to it and produced wonderful images. The
kid at the grocery had no difficulty printing them and was rather put out
that they weren't more of a challenge. I got some wonderful photos of
the Belle of Louisville, an old excursion steamer out of the Port of
Louisville, KY. I especially wanted these because my very first real job
at, the tender age of 16 was as driver for the owner of that boat when
she was called The Avalon and called Cincinnati here home. I spent many
happy hours aboard her, cruising up and down the river and drinking root
beer with Capt. Wagner.
What I like is that it is so much easier to get blow ups of the 7 perf.
negatives. If you don't point it out some photo finishers don't even
seem to notice it.
The exposures have been good, the film transports properly, and the
photos are sharp. And it didn't cost very much.
My only problem was a loose film transport lever, which was easily
tightened.
