P3D Re: Mark's New FED challenge

It was great to hear from Charlie about his print success with
the FED. Sorry, George, but if someone had put a Realist in my
hand, it wouldn't have been the same. I inquired about processing
for FED prints before I bought it. That was the key to its success.
I can, if I understand correctly, walk into about any processing
lab there is and get FED prints (or Belplasca, Verascope, etc.). They'll
have little black bands at either end, but that's easy to
trim off. For Realist, I understand there are places like Grand
Photo that do a good job, but they're mail order only for most
people, and last I heard, the Grand prints from Realist format were
95 cents for each side, or $1.90 for a stereo pair. Ouch! These are
25 cents, and they're very nice prints.

BTW, Charlie, do you have any problems with them cutting up the
negatives wrong? That's been the only snag for me--sometimes
they cut into the image area since some device assumes that the
frame lines will be at normal places. I'm getting around this
by having the negatives returned in long sleeves, but one day
they started to cut them first and got two images. Another day
they just cut them up as usual. The manager told the technician
about it and the technician got mad. Fortunately it was an
ordinary roll of film, but I had decided to ask for all of
my film in long sleeves so they would get used to it.  :-)

Oh yes--I met Mark Dottle and saw the View-Magic--nifty little
device! I'm going to get one! Thanks again, Mark! (And I made
it back to the parking garage before the 30 minutes were up!)
