This is a curtain to block the image during slide change
so you don't see it moving in the screen.

Yes. The slide carrier has a little pin that pushes it open
as you slide it back and forth. (When you first put the carrier
into the projector make sure that this pin is out of the way...
also when you take the carrier out make sure it is out of the
way or you will jam the carrier and you have to open the
projector's top cover to remove it.)
If your carrier has the pin (sometimes it is broken) and you
install it correctly, then the pin will open the curtain as part
of the normal operation.
I thought you only did cards. How come you ended up with two
TDC projectors? :-)
