I got to have a play with some of these last week, tried 2 pairs of Sony
glasses. One was 640x480 resolution (£750 or about $500) and one was
800x600 (£1800 or about $1200). Those were single prices so they probably
get better in bulk. I think those models were virtual 52" screens.

The picture quality is pretty good, obviously nicer in the higher res model
since it looks less grainy. They weren't displaying stereo at the demo I
saw, but they can apparently do it. However they have to do this by sending
images of the left and right channels sequentially, halving the maximum
screen update rate from 80Hz to 40Hz.

They already have translucency - there are little plus and minus switches
which let you see more or less of the outside world.
I wouldn't say no to a pair :)
