P3D Re: Image Overlap

A small image overlap is considered normal in all Realist-format
cameras because the images touch each other without any gap
between them. Any slack in the winding mechanism will show
up as a small overlap. When you cut the film just cut at the
center to divide this averlap. The small overlap in each frame
will be masked under the mount and this is normal.

Large amounts of overlap (in the order of one or more film
sprockets) are not normal and cannot be masked by the mount.
Older Realists have a friction-based wind mechanism and will
show this problem after long use. In this case they will need
to be serviced. I do not know why this is happending and how
it can be fixed, that's why I did not inlcude any information
in my Realist book :-) Jess Powell does not discuss this either.
