The Litmus test is this: Do you ever say "stereopticon"
yourself? I cannot get myself to say stereopticon when I mean
stereoscope. I understand that those who frequent in antique
stores looking for bargains have already adopted the term
stereopticon.

To simplify things I say "distance between the eyes" and
"distance between the lenses" to make sure that everyone
understands what I am talking about.
