In the latest issue of STEREO WORLD, which was a double issue, fellow
Mustang enthusiast Bill Davis did a great two page review on the Bill
Walton 3D-CD Project. Thanks Bill.

Perhaps someone is interested in a bit more detail than was in the SW
review and I am more than glad to provide some of that kind of
information. After all, how many 3D-CDs are produced that showcase 20
years or so of a stereographers work, plus the works of several of his
stereo friends.

There are about 1000 images on the 3D-CD, and they are in both side by
side stereoview format and anaglyphhs. The necessary viewing devices
come with the CD. It covers about 22 years of my stereo work 1977-1999.
My images on the CD were made with the following cameras: Iso Duplex,
Realist 3.5, Kodak Stereo, TDC, twinned Canon AE-1s, twinned Canon A1s,
and a motor Driven Canon A1 for the aerial stereographs.

I really like the way Dan Shelley mixed the images, introductions to the
various sections and the Biographies. For instance, if you take the
trouble to read my biography there is a section describing the helicopter
that I crashed on my 37th Birthday, 6 Feb 1968, in Pleiku, Vietnam. A
short part of one sentence in this section is underlined and when you
click on it you will see a stereo, either as a stereoview or anaglyph
depending on which section you are in, of me made about 19 years later
completing the "planting" of the last piece of that helicopter in my back
yard as The Walton Vietnam Monument. Click on the stereo and you will get
the label describing the view on the front. All the stereos have labels
which can be read by clicking on the enlarged image.

Bill Davis made a tongue in cheek remark about me not using much color.
That is true, as Black and White is what I like and what I do. This
causes occasional problems in the international exhibitions as some
judges don't care for Black & White Stereographs. I have 2 sections on
the CD in color, my trip to Japan in 1997 and our visit with Dick
Twichell in New York that same year, plus various and sundry Christmas
cards, etc, in color scattered throughout the CD..

The section on celebrities was given good coverage by Bill. But there
are a couple of folks in that section that deserve a bit more attention.
"Mr Realist " Ron Zakowski is depicted giving an open air class on the
care and cleaning of the Realist camera, Lori Martin, who went over
Niagara Falls in 1995 agreed to pose me and I stereographed "Mr Sulu",
George Takei of Star Trek fame at a Star Trek Convention in Columbus, GA.
Another interesting celebrity stereo is that of Senator Barry Goldwater,
which appears on the top of the page of the CD website. This stereo won
the Muscogee 3-D History Award in the 1999 PSA Intl Stereo Card
Exhibition and was published in the Nov 1999 PSA Journal.

The other stereographers on the CD, Richard Twichell, N Bill Patterson,
Walter Dubronner, Klaus Kemper, Shab Levy, Stan White and Craig Daniels
were asked to participate in the CD Project because they are involved in
some of my stereo activities.

Richard Twichell and N. Bill Patterson as well as Craig Daniels represent
the Stereoscopic Society of America, as I have been a SSA member since
1978. Richard has made many trips to Thailand and his beautiful
stereos, in color, are the most exotic on the CD. Bill Patterson's
specialty is hand tinting and he has some wonderful images.IMHO, on the
CD. Craig Daniels, who specializes in converting 2-D to 3-D , is
setting new standards for this discipline. He did my wedding picture,
which is the first image in his section, and it turned out just great.
There are also about 50 stereos from the SSA archives in this section,
going back as far as the 1920s. In the later stereos of this section
there is a excellent stereo of The Godfather of Stereo Paul Wing and his
wife.

In 1993 PSA recognized stereo cards and I became a charter member and
later Director of the PSA Stereo Card Circuit. This activity is
represented by Stan White's masterpieces on the CD. He does beautiful
hand tinting and in addition writes a little story or poem for each
label. He holds the current price record for a contemporary stereograph
in the annual NSA Auction- $95.

About three years ago Klaus Kemper and I started a no fee North
America-Germany Stereo Card Circuit. It seems to be well received and is
attracting more new members all the time. His and Shaw Levy's
color stereographs represent that activity on the CD. Klaus is a High
School Design teacher and Shab is a Designer by profession and their
excellent stereographs show their training and interests.

The newest of my stereo activities is the ISU Stereo Card Circuit, which
began earlier this year. What better person to represent that on the CD
than Walter Dubronner, ISU Card Circuit Secretary. He brings a wealth of
experience to the table and his color stereos are a joy to behold.

So all in all, there is a little something for almost everyone on the
Bill Walton 3D-CD. If you would like more information or would like to
perhaps order one please go the 3D-CD website:

There are also 40 sample images on the website to give you some idea as
to what the CD contains.

Eighty four of the CD stereos, from around the Flensburg Germany area,
are now on a German web site Flensburg -online, in anaglyphic format.
If you would like to see these please go to:

For more information on the 3D-CD please contact me direct, not on the
Photo 3-D mailing list.
