Terri Gross interviewed Hugh Hefner on today's "Fresh Air" (NPR). Hefner
reminisced about the beginnings of Playboy Magazine, and mentioned that
his plan for the first Playboy was to include a centerfold in 3D, given
the 3D craze of the 50s. He said this plan was scrapped because of the
expense of providing red/green glasses with every issue of the magazine.
Instead, he decided to use a centerfold photo of Marilyn Monroe, which
the magazine had obtained from a calendar company for $500.
