P3D beginner 2x2 mounting

When you are mounting 2x2 slides does the "near point" ALWAYS overlap?

The mounting I am doing is for slide projection.

The reason I ask this is that if you shoot a scene with a rock right in
front of you and with panarama to infinity, then the rock would be
overlapped. But what happens if you shoot an object that is supposed to be
far away, like the top of a building. Are you allowed to create a false near
point that is not visible on the slides?

I hope this makes sense.
