P3D Re: RE: P3D Multi-track mini disks
Minidiscs give much better quality than MP3 at the most common bitrates (you
can use higher ones, but the current generation of solid-state players then
don't give you very much playback time). Worse, memory cards for MP3 style
players (and digicams etc) are horribly expensive.
On the other hand, MD is close to CD audio quality, 74mins on a disc in
stereo (or double in mono), and blank discs are very cheap - a few dollars.
The latest units come with around 40+secs of anti-shock buffering, so they
don't skip (unless you're shaking them constantly).
Re the formatting, I have a digicam that uses SmartMedia cards - I can't
confirm for certain that you can reformat a card, but I can't think of a
single good reason why you shouldn't be able to - I very much doubt that you
can't.
