You probably do not need to remove the top cover of the camera, at least
not with a Japanese model. There is a kind of a clip in the bottom of the
hot shoe, slide that out and you will see the screw top. This as far as I
can remember screws straight into a thread in the camera chassis in the
Japanes model at least, it also makes one half of the electrical connection
so the flash may start to missfire, if it is not already doing so, if its
not put right.
If you do need to remove the top for anything you need to remove the screw
anyway first, then undo the top of the wind-on with either the proper tool
or a pair of dividers or fine forceps inserted in the two holes. Underneath
there are some washers and the device for engaging with the bottom of the
wind-on which needs to be unscrewed,You realy need a tool for this as well
but forceps will do.
Then remove the rewind by locking the spindle with a screwdriver in the
slot that engages with the inside of the film can,and turn the rewind knob
anticlockwise to unscrew it. With the UK model you also need to unscrew the
atatchments for the strap as they pass through the sides of the top. Do NOT
do this with a Japanese model there are inverted "U" shaped slots in the
top which enable it to slide on or off the atatchments. If you do "unscrew"
them they will shear off. P.J.Homer
