My understanding was always that the bid will automatically be raised to
the reserve price if you bid above it, regardless if there is another bidder
or not. 

For example the current bid is $25, and the reserve price is $100. You 
put a high bid of $200. The current bid is then raised to $100, even if
your the only one bidding.
