P3D The art thread..

I've been following the thread on art and have been enjoying Al Razutis'
discourse on the subject.
I like to think about it this way:
Let's say I have two baseballs. They are identical in appearance. However,
one baseball was a foul ball caught in the stands off the bat of Pokey
Reese. The other is a home run ball from the bat of Sammy Sosa. Which one is
more likely to end up on display at Cooperstown? The relative
value/importance has nothing to do with the appearance of the baseball, but
rather with it's history. Important art is much the same. If you don't know
anything about baseball, a trip to Cooperstown will not have as much meaning
for you as it will for an avid baseball fan. The same is true for going to
look at art. It's all in your head. What you know influences how you feel
about what you see. IMHO :-)
