Owning both a C-Band and a DirecTv dish (two different locations)
I still prefer my C-Band - the video is better and the subscriptions
more reasonably priced.
However, due to the BUD factor (big ugly dish), the 18" systems are
coming on strong. For example I have a real-estate partner where
his c-band system is down and he's not going to fix it, moving to
an 18" system instead.
There are reports that one can pick up a used C-band system for next
to nothing by watching the classifieds or calling a satellite dealer.
The biggest chore in the installation is digging a hole and filling
it with a bag of concrete for the support pole.
For anyone interested in pursuing this, feel free to e-mail me
privately. I've installed a bunch of 'em for friends (there are
even ways to get around covenants, etc).
