P3D I'm getting confused...(auctions)

*****  If you had bid over the reserve by 2x or 3x, wouldn't that mean 
you won the autcion assuming your bid was highest? What do you mean you 
wouldn't be obligated to purchase at such a successful bid? 
This makes no sense at all.
