Some VCRs have a digital freeze frame option which produces a clear and
jitter free frozen image.  I have an old Toshiba DX-900 VHS which does this
brilliantly.   With a frozen image you would have control over lighting and
would be able to photograph any number of frames to allow you to experiment
with the depth of the image. You would also be able to play with double
exposures, perhaps taping black velvet over the TV screen for the first
exposure, then exposing the video image with all ambient light removed.  A
variation on this concept that I'm hoping to try one of these days is to
make two stereo cards, one with two left images and one with two right
images and take a shot of a stereoscope holding each card, shifting the
camera slightly between shots.  The result would be a 3D image of a
stereoscope with a card containing two 3D images.  Please let us know the
results of your experiments...
