P3D Re: Cyclopean

It also proves that in at least one small circle of people,
the word has come to have that meaning, which is what
was being affirmed. But I agree completely that even
though, in that circle, the word is used with that meaning,
it is still a misuse of the word, and continued use of the
word "Cyclopean" to mean "having stereopsis" or
"characterized by the consolidation of binocular
sensations into a single depth-cognizant perception"
should not be perpetuated but should be avoided and even
condemned. The fact that the consolidated image seems
to be perceived at the center of the forehead is not
sufficient justification for using that property as the basis
for naming. The effect should be named for its
distinguishing characteristic, not an incidental one.
BTW, do those who can't perceive stereopsis have
consciousness of two images, the way I do when I'm
viewing a stereo view that I can't fuse? And if so, where
in their anatomy do they feel the images to be located, if
not in the center of the forehead?
