Ok, here's the story. I once used four files for each stereo pair, a
cross-eye,
a parallel, a JPS, and an anaglyph. This was fine until I ran out of web
space. Then I thought, why not let DepthCharge and Stereoscope provide
the parallel and cross-eye view? DepthCharge is a browser plug-in for
Windows based computers. Stereoscope is a Java applet that works on
most systems, if they are Java 1.1 enabled. Both of these programs give
the user great control over how to view the stereo pair, including the
ability to vary the size of a parallel view, and support for LCS glasses.
There has, unfortunately, been a long thread on this list about the
conflicts of the Java Stereoscope applet with some operating systems.
Lets not start that again :-)
Now I only store two image files for each stereo image; a moderate to large
size JPS, and a smaller anaglyph. It reduces the web space requirements
and the time I have to spend writing HTML and converting file formats.
The cross-eye option exists because I found a trick to display JPS files as
a JPEG, so the JPS file can be viewed in its native cross-eyed form without
a plug-in or applet. So you see, I don't intend to discriminate against
parallel
viewing, and even have two ways to do it- DepthCharge and Stereoscope.
Most stereoscopic galleries only give one form of stereo view.
If you have a windows machine it would be worthwhile to download
DepthCharge because it gives you many viewing options. It might
also benefit you to become Java enabled, if you are not already.
