Seems to me I learned from some info on Larry Berlin's site.
It was a long time ago and I don't have a URL, and I don't
know whether it is still on his site.  I remember it well
because he had a "teaser" link for a freeview teaching kit.
There was in fact no such kit (but there were some tips on
how to make one).

I did post to this last in (excruciating) detail about my
own experience learning to freeview.  I have no idea whether
it was or could be of use to anyone else.  I'll try to dig
up that post somehow, if you are interested.
