Photonics West has a fine turnout in San Jose CA USA again this year. 
Engineering Virtual reality, 3 D Displays, practical holography, and
other talks are offered.  Andy Woods and John Merrit have even attracted
John Roberts, Boris, Lenny Lipton, Vivian Walworth and other familiar
people on this list. About 30 people of the 3D group went out to dinner
tonight.
Perhaps the most interesting thing is that people have been finding
practical industrial uses for stereo.  No doubt due to the digital
revolution that is upon us.  Many tedious or previously expensive tasks
can now be conducted using PCs.  If the technical side of 3D captures
your interest you may want to attend next year. see:
