P3D Stitz misalignment

Hi!

After some shots on Gold Max 800 did not look good,
I tried my Stitz beamsplitter with Kodachrome, in
bright sunlight, at f/8, f/11, and f/16. This only
confirmed my suspicion of misalignment. I had to
rotate the splitter about 8 degrees just to get
the images to line up vertically, but even at
that the left image was blurred compared to the
right, and it was also much more blurred at the
top than at the bottom. This was shooting my back
porch at a distance of about 15 feet, using an
Olympus 85mm f/2 lens on my OM-10.

If you look into the front of the unit, the mirrors
are visibly crooked.

Has anyone else had this problem with a Stitz?
I could only guess that repairing it would be
prohibitive.

I also don't see any reason why extreme closeups
with flowers would be any better--why waste the film?

I'm still very pleased with my non-adjustable Pentax
for general photography--got one incredible portrait
at f/2.8 and about 1/2 second, using an 80C filter
under incandescent light, from Christmas. There were
several other decent shots under the same conditions.
I used a tabletop tripod on--a dining room table!

The Stereo-tach splitter with a No. 2 closeup lens on
my 85mm Olympus f/2 does do very nice flower shots,
even though the range of distances is not great (this
is where I had hoped the Stitz would shine, with its
adjustable mirrors).

And I think the Franka, once I install the front-surface
mirrors, is going to do a fine job of telephoto shots
with the same 85mm lens. I'll grind away the housing and
fix the mirrors into one position for that lens.

Thanks for any thoughts about the Stitz problems.
