P3D OSPS Review - Serenity

OK Mark, my turn now... :-)

The subject of the OSPS competition was “Serenity”. This was
seen by many as an excuse to submit mid-day, full-sun, scenic
images. For me, noon & full-sun in nature, with bugs crawling
around, and mosquitoes and bees and ants, hot, humid, etc., is
not “serene”... unless if you are somewhere in Mexico or Greece,
taking a mid-day nap.

Mark’s “Aloft”, an air balloon framed by a tree, is one of the
worse offenders. This is an (almost) action shot. So, who is
relaxing? The high contrast and bright light did not make me
relax. I needed my sunglasses!

If I were a judge I would have scored this (and others,
including the first place) below average because they did not
meet the assignment well, in my opinion. Also, the first place
image had a severe window violation. I don’t understand how it
got a perfect score. But that's just my opinion...

Mark said that my 3 entries looked similar. What they had in
common was subdue lighting. Late afternoon. Sunset. Yes,
that’s serene. That’s relaxing.

Now I am looking forward for the “Antiques” assignment... Mark
admitted that all he has is a picture of his mother-in-law. I
think I got some better pictures laying around... :-)

See ya next month!

PS. Mark’s "Silent Stream" was projected out of focus and dim?
I was in charge of focusing, so... can you blame me? :-) Also,
the TDC projector is a bit dimmer than the Brackett Dissolver
that was used to project the same slide in last meeting’s
presentation. But I think you are hurting yourself Mark. IMO,
you had some much better slides that fit the theme. But that's
just my opinion...
