On the other hand, just because a picture had depth it does not
mean that it is a good photograph (i.e pleasing to see).

I think I am seeing the origin of our difference in opinion. 
The challenge for me is to produce a good photograph that has
depth.  As I have said before, depth per se is very low in my
list of qualities of a good stereo image.  You seem to have it
at the top.
