P3D Provia 100F
I saw a comment on here about someone who was going to try the new
Fuji Provia 100F film. I am a long-time Kodachrome fan from the 70s who
compared all other film to K25. I have shot 4 rolls so far of the 100F
type and can say its actually finer grained than K25. Color is good, but
not quite Kodachrome charm. 100F seems to have a slightly magenta cast
only under certain conditions. Not really noticable unless you are being
really picky like most Kodachrome nuts are. (Me)
On the other hand, K25 is far too contrasty and processing is a real
chore to find a good lab. A&I is about the best. K64 has better overall
contrast and color just as good as K25 but the grain starts to be quite
noticeable.
Kodachrome II was the best..... But for replacement of the old standard
go with Provia 100F. By the way, Kodak is not completely out of the
game. Ektachrome E100S is also very good. I shot a roll of E100SW and it
reminded me of the old Kodachrome of the 1950s. A good choice if shooting
on a winter day. And you still can't beat Tungsten Balanced Ektachrome if
you are indoors without flash.
In summary, there are a multitude of E6 films to choose from anymore that
suit various applications.
