Let's not forget that the slide bar is also the basis of a very good quick
release system.  I have attached one of these bars to each of my camera bodies,
underhanging an inch at the left.  Besides making the cameras a snap to mount,
this creates a comfortable grip for the left hand.  I only wish that
Manfrotto/Bogen made a shorter non-sliding version of the bar for my long
telephotos.
