P3D VM: my fears

I once bought a large stock of blank VM reels on eBay, so I feel in peace
for some years.
Anyway, even if I'm not a paperwork expert I can't believe that the loose of
a single machine can paralize production of blank reels forever.
A slovakian guy once told me of one of his friends crafting himself Meopta
reels. I tend to believe him, just because he had no reasons to tell me
lies.
Of course I don't propose anybody to craft VM reels (I couldn't even tell
how) but I suspect the fire in producing plants can be just a pretest to end
a non-remunerating production.
Can anybody figure the yearly worldwide demand for VM reels? I'm afraid it
hardly would reach 2K units!
In my opinion Mattel is a well-known media-killer (videomakers remember FP's
PXL2000 and some creative "weird" photographers are perhaps using FP's
"creative effecs" toy camera) so I'm afraid they will never re-start
producion just because it is not convenient for them.
