A similar demonstration has been given by Dalgoutte, in
England,
I believe in the 1950s.

In Paris I once saw a very convincing demonstration by the
famous Guy Ventouillac, who had made several copies of one nice
stereopair, mounted in different ways, which showed how a fine
shot can be ruined by violating the window. If memory serves,
he also showed the slides with transparent strips at the sides
which had to be masked off. This was especially appropriate in
France, since the Verascopes have no built-in stereowindow.

In my opinion a demonstration slide should not have too fine
details, like grass in a backyard :-) or small leaves, but
rather show a limited number of objects at different distances.

LLL for DDD... Yes, it seems to be difficult for many people to
place themselves before a window and _just look_ what they can
see with either eye.

Larry Berlin has (had?) animated gifs on his site (for
cross-eyed and parallel viewing) in which one of the "chips"
moves, changing the place of the window with respect to the
scene.
(I have downloaded this part of his site more than two years
ago, but today I couldn't find a working link to the
animations.

I have saved xwindow1.gif and pwindow1.gif in Oct 1997)

The animation is a nice idea, however I believe that the shot
chosen for it was not the best possible example, it shows a
creek with grassy borders, probably nice in a viewer, but with
the limited resolution of web images a shot with stronger 3D
effects and coarser details would do better, in my opinion.
Can you show another example, Larry?
