The standardization comes not in the way a mount is made (such
as material, etc.) it comes in the sizing. Meaning outside
dimensions (41x101), window aperture spacing (63.5), etc. These
are the things that make it possible to project different images
without having to adjust the projector. And as Dr. T. has stated most
mounts do conform to these standards. I just found in my limited
exposure that there either has been or is a lot more types and sizes
of mounts out there than I ever imagined.
There are people out there, such as Boris Starosta, that do have to
compromise their original images if they want to be accepted in
exhibitions. Boris shoots 2x2 full frame originals and has to crop
them down and mount them in 41x101 mounts to be accepted.
Most exhibitions even limit the size to 7p. That is a lot of cropping
for Boris to have to do.
That's all for now,
