You've asked good questions to which I don't know the answers. 
But I do want to make one comment:

Today's E6 filmd do not fade in 10 years.  Properly stored they
have a life span (defined as the time required for the film to
lose a certain percentage of its colors or show a certain color
shift, usually around 10%, but I am not sure) of 50 years at
least.  Kodachrome has a life span of 150 years. I pulled these
numbers out of memory.  Most probably they are wrong but they
are certainly longer than your expectations.  

Improperly stored or frequently projected, both E6 and
Kodachrome last singificanly less.  It is reported that
Kodachrome fades faster than E6 in projection (and I can assume
that this includes exposure to sunlight too)
