P3D Determine Shifts with an SLR

I've stumbled on a camera shift technique ( single SLR) that works for
me every time. I've been using this idea for about a year now. Put your
calculators away and soak your fingers in Palmolive before flaming:-) I
use the 2 circles in my viewfinder, the focusing aides, to help me
determine the amount of camera shift. The distance between the 2 circles
( the area of the microprism collar....the grainy ground glass that
turns clear during focus) is my aid. Here's how it works. Frame your
first shot (L) use your eye to align a near point and an infinity point
( or farthest point ) on a straight line....as though looking through a
rifle scope. Shift the camera so these points are seperated in distance
equal to the distance described between the focusing circles. Take the
second shot. This is based on OFD only.......it really works. Any near
and far point distances can be used! If you have this type of focusing
aid.....try it...leave the calculator at home. :-) Mark
