I have a confession to make: I collect View-Master Royal weddings...
I must be some kind of 3d masochist because, from a photographic
standpoint, these reels are among the worse VM reels ever made!
The photographers are usually far away from the action, and there
is little or no depth. Yes... to add insult to the injury, the
"Royal Packs" usually include close-ups in 2d!!! (ouch!)
Well, there is an exception.... Reel C005, "Royal Wedding, Athens
1962". This is the wedding of Princes Sophia of Greece with
Prince Don Juan Carlos of Spain, today the KING and QUEEN of
SPAIN. Princes Sophia is the daughter of King Paul of Greece. King
Paul died a few short years later and his young son, Konstantinos
became the new King of Greece. Konstantinos' wedding is also
photographed in VM but it is not as exciting as that of his sister Sophia.
In 1974 Greeks voted to change the constitution to Presidential
Democracy and Konstantinos and his family live in exile since then.
This wedding has everything: Historical significance (considering that
Konstantinos, Sophia and Juan Carlos became Kings and Queen,
at least 4 Kings and 3 Queens are pictured), plenty of depth, close-ups
of the couple in glorious 3d. And pictures of wonderful Athens.
Here, I have put a few examples in the internet:

OK, ok... I have to warn you, this is an auction, but you don't have to
bid or buy anything, just go there and have a look!
I think Sophia is very pretty (and I do not say that because she is the
daughter of the King of Greece) and has been photographed
very well in this VM set.
If anyone in this list happens to be in Athens the same time I am there,
I'd be happy to take you to the church where these Royal Weddings
(Sophia's and Konstantinos') took place. Actually, the interior of the
church is pictured in my Realist book as an example of how sharp the
Realist Ilex is at wide-open aperture. But I took the best pictures last
year when I used the RBT S1 inside the church in auto exposure mode.
Royal collector, George Themelis
