Depending on how the message is formatted, it may very well be "overly
intrusive". I get the occasional HTML e-mail from companies which I've
"opted in" to receive. Most times, the HTML doesn't contain image data,
but rather links back to the sender's server. So when I open one of
these e-mails to read while I'm off-line, Outlook Express immediately
dials my ISP in order to load all of the graphics that weren't present
in the HTML message. If that were to happen with every Onelist e-mail,
I don't think I could stand it. And don't get me started on
"cookies"...
Also, the advertisements are added after your message is sent; you never
get to see what has been appended. I would be extremely annoyed if I
sent an e-mail message to hundreds of people which contained advertising
for a product which is potentially embarrassing, or for a cause I do not
support, a product or company I detest, etc.
