Ken Luker brought up a few interesting points... To
summarize his thoughts, he is saying that instead of
using an inflexible jig, he prefers to use a mounting
gauge and use the lines in this gauge to rotate the chips
to correct any unintentional tilt in his pictures, which,
he says, happens quite often, despite his lack of humor
(ehhhrrr.... I mean despite his best attempts for holding
his camera straight.)
I am rather surprised to hear that this happens often.
Unless if he shoots most of his pictures by the sea shore
(while taking pictures of the sea shells) it is not common
to have pictures where a clear horizon or other "alignment"
clues are present.
For Realist users: If this problem continues despite your
attempts for well-leveled pictures, I suggest that you check
the alignment of the black mask at the viewfinder. If this
mask is rotated then all your pictures will be tilted. I have
a friend who's mask was tilted by 20-30 degrees. He
went out shooting pictures of buildings. Needless to say
he was very disappointed by the results. I helped him
identify and fix the problem.
A bit more about tilted pictures and the correction that
Ken applies in the next message...
