First, please note I trimmed this to include only the text of the message and not the mail headers or advertising :-)
Next, I did not think that Peter's original message was any type of "sales pitch". It was, IMHO, a request to find out who was interested and an offer to send information "off-list". If I were interested in El-cheapo lens covers, I would have replied as requested.
Third, I feel that photo-3d's charter should remain a forum for the exchange of information "yada yada yada" and that sell-3d should remain a forum for the sale or notification of sales of 3D items "yada yada yada".
I see no problem with replies like "You remove the lensboard and take a blowtorch... See chapter 14 in my book..." or "RMM has those mounts for sale. Contact ...". I even think such comments like "Hey everyone, my new book "Everything you ever wanted to know about 3d pinhole cameras is now out. See sell-3d for details" is an appropriate posting for photo-3d.
Even though this list is now on a "commercial" server, the charter of the group should remain the same. And, there are moderators for all the -3D groups. I recommend the monitors provide guidance to anyone who seems to be posting outside the charter of the list(s). And, if Onelist is anything like eGroups, the moderators also have the power to remove subscribers too!
Just my $0.02 worth today as I'm delaying the work I need to do on my new print server. Have a nice day.
