Do you have photoshop?  Would anyone be interested in the steps I use to
correct the problem?  Well, I don't know that the "corrected" image is
exactly what I would get if the scanner were working properly, but it's
certainly improved.

I hope it works better for you than it did for me.  I've tried it several
times and don't notice any improvement...

No, my problem started before.  I know I can get glass mounts to go in,
but I haven't actually tried to scan any that way.  I always tape half of
a plastic 2x2 mount over the end of the slide I'm scanning to help align
it in the scanner and I don't think the tape would hold if I pushed as
hard as I have to with glass mounts.  I don't have very many glass mounted
shots anyway.

Well, I guess now I know I'm not the only one with a fried PhotoSmart.  If
I find anything that really works I will post it.
