Hi,

I use a program from Hamrick called something like smartscan,
http://www.hamrick.com/, it allows setting the scan area and the offset to
the start of the scan area. It's free but you have to buy their VuePrint
program, which costs $40, to get it. You can set up to scan half of a
Realist format slide just by setting the scan size to 30mm. By the way don't
ever try to scan the whole slide at once, you'll damage the scanner and
don't just scan with the smartscan program without setting the scan area
size, it will try to scan the whole slide.

Oh, this program will scan uncut slide film which the HP program will not
do.
