I Argh! along with you. Paul!

Add one more misinformed pontification to the current industry confusion
over the term 3D! When is the computer industry going to "wise up" and
set up an Accepted Terminology Standards Group that can establish the
meaning for a technical term, or establish at least a working variation
of the term for cross discipline differences? It is certainly needed
for "3D"!

Another such term that has been misused by the Madison Avenue people has
been "resolution." 640 x 480 pixels, for example, is NOT a "resolution"
figure. 640 x 480 pixels on a 15" screen has a DIFFERENT resolution
from 640 x 480 on a 20" screen. It is a figure that represents the
dimension of an image in pixels, nothing else. On a screen of a given
size, the resolution varies with the pixel dimensions, but the term
"resolution" is incorrectly used. You'll notice that the manuals for
Adobe Photoshop and CorelDRAW don't make this mistake.

Cordially,
Oliver Dean
