Very true - but I for one wish this were otherwise. I don't think there is
any substitute for being able to hold an item in your hand - come to an
agreement on the price - and walk away with the item. Sure - the selection
may be sparse compared to E-Bay, but I have found some great items at the
past 18 or 19 NSA conventions which I have attended. (Items I have yet to see
on E-Bay) As far as the dealers - that is another story. The fun is for the
buyers and the work is for the dealers. If the dealers can list on E-Bay and
make the same or more money for less expended energy - I can't blame them. I
have heard alot of talk of how E-Bay will make flea market type dealing a
thing of the past, but luckily I have not experienced this. I attend about 7
different flea markets in New York City every weekend (mostly in the same
general location) as well as 2 camera shows a month and other antique, toy,
paper, etc. shows and the dealer attendance has not really noticeably
diminished over the years as far as I can see. And as far as getting a
bargain - the very nature of E-Bay makes this quite difficult - although not
impossible. But at a flea market you don't have hundreds of collectors next
to you telling the dealer that the item is worth more money. I would rather
compete with only a handful of 3D collectors as opposed to the E-Bay
alternative. E-Bay is great, but I just hope it does not replace all the
other "old fashioned" alternatives. I worry about this happening. But I
also worry about how I will continue to shoot View Master and all the other
3D formats once Digital photography makes film obsolete, but that is another
topic altogether.
