I don't find it so strange that someone would bid on an item of local
interest.  My interest in the stereocards I buy is almost exclusively
based on my interested outside of stereo photography.  I buy the card
because I'm interested in the subject, not the card (although I doubt
I would buy a non-stereo photo of the same subjects).

I live in NYC.  I went to school (NYU/Cooper Union) near the site of
The Bowery card that George sold recently.  I currently work near Wall
Street (also the subject of a card George sold recently) and until
last December worked in the Empire State Building.  I've been to the
Central Park and Bronx Zoos many times.  In day to day life I've been
to the locations of most of the cards featured in Across the Sea of
Time.
