[photo-3d] Re: Casio QV8000SX vs. Olympus C-3030

The following is a recap of an off-list discussion of alternatives for
twinned digital cameras based on my question on photo-3d a couple days ago.
Has anyone anything comparable to contribute for the Olympus C-2000/2020/3030
series of cameras, either individually or twinned?
<< On a 3D subject, has anyone twinned the Casio 8000 digital camera? It is
the
only one with a remote shutter release and a low shutter lag time. It has
full manual controls and aperture priority. I am trying to decide whether
to
go with it or the new Olympus C-3030. It's a cost/pixel trade-off.

Jeff Wulf responds:
I own one of these and it's just an AMAZING digital camera.
I've even done some nice astrophotography with it!
If you have ANY questions I know it inside and out.
GET IT, just . . amazing...
:)

Really depends on the printer. I have a Epson 900 and with it's SMALL
droplett
size prints look perfect under A LITTLE magnification. (I use a "loup viewer"
that is pretty low mag...).. but I have another viewer (sorry don't know
names) where even SMALL dropletts can be seen. BUT, it's not the cam's
fault..
you can print pics 8x10 and they look just GREAT.
All in all it's VERY usefull, everyone just loves all my pics...
>2) How much delay is there in the remote shutter release? This is the ONLY

Shutter release delay isn't there (instant!) if it's in focus and ready to
rock. If it needs to focus is still way under a half a second. HECK YEAH you
could synch it, no prob! Use a few male-female adapters and an 1/8" splitter
and get another 3/32" jack from radio shack and yer good to go. (I know it's
possible but I didn't explain that very well!) the cord is only about 3
feet,
but it would be easy enough to extend it. a 3/32" female-male adapter is all
you need! (again, radio shack) :)
>3) Reviews, both professional and users, have talked about the problems with

**OH, adding this part later.. LCD complaints in LOW LIGHT. Steve's digicams,
right? no idea what he's talking about. It's backlit so you can see it
PERFECTLY in pitch dark.. heck, I could see STARS in the thing..**
I used the back of a mouse pad and a little sticky velcro to make a light
shade that folds up, works PERFECTLY outside now. (heck, was very useable
before..).. aiming was easy, just pointed and shot. I'm just getting into
some
work thru an 8" scope, I'll let you know more about that. the 64 second
shutter with no noise is amazing..

heh heh . . I've had it for about 5 months, haven't had any trouble... BUT,
I'm carefull. :)
BTW, you can get 'em for 513 from buy.com.. do a search for CASIO or "8000sx"
and you'll find 'em..
any other q's just let me know!

Yep, it SNAPS in at 90 degrees.. PLUS you can use another neat feature on the
cam..
you can set it to "grid mode" and it has lines cris-crossing the screen so
you could line it up that way too...

re: oly pixels, that's one of the reasons I went for the 8000. Each pic on it
is 500k. If you bump it up to 3.3 MP, then.. man.. the file size is gonna' be
like almost 2MB or something. Pics are gonna go MIGHTY quick unless you get a
128mb flash card. :)
as far as printed pic quality you'd better off spending the extra for a
better printer rather than better cameras... IMHO..
