Hi edd and welcome to photo-3d! We are here to help!
> im thinking of getting a stereo realist 3.5
Good idea!!!
> what film do they take?
35mm film, positive (slides) or negative. The camera was
designed in 1943-1947 with the new (then) Kodachrome 10
film in mind. A slide viewer (Realist red button) and mounting
accessories and a mounting service was part of the system
when it was introduced to the public in 1947. Today a lot
of stereo enthusiasts use ASA 100 slide film or Kodachrome
64.
> how do you develop the film? can you take it to the local lab?
Yes, you can take it to the local lab. If you shoot slide
film and want to do your own mounting, ask to return
the roll uncut. Kodak will still process and mount Realist
format stereo slides. If you shoot print film and you want
prints made, you will have to find a local club willing to
work with this format.
